Technology Strategy

Kuehne + Nagel makes ongoing investments in staff, software and hardware, as well as continuous improvement of information technology (IT) capabilities to meet our customers’ requirements.

Examples include development and implementation of standardized international freight, warehouse and transportation management systems, RFID and KN Login's visibility, monitoring and reporting capabilities. Our strategy is to select best-of-breed applications, as appropriate, as well as developing internal applications that yield competitive advantage.

We are committed to our strategy of standardizing IT systems. Some examples:

  • Contract logistics standardization initiative continues with the introduction of our warehouse management system (WMS) in the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region
  • Launch of a new transportation management system (TMS), enabling ongoing European transport optimization, leading to better resource use and lower costs

Kuehne + Nagel's IT focus includes:

  • Web-enabling business-support applications
  • Continuously enhancing customer applications and developing new applications
  • Re-architecting infrastructure to support real-time business and functions-on-demand model
  • Fully implementing business-process management middleware
  • Deployment of Web services to enable integration of our and our customers’ business processes

Our standardization strategy helps reduce overall costs related to planning and implementation, development and support. More importantly, this approach creates added value for customers through better coordination, integration, data quality and analytical capabilities.
