The development of Kuehne + Nagel in Hong Kong
50 years ago, as early as 1965, Kuehne + Nagel established a liaison office in Hong Kong. This was the company’s first representation in Asia and has remained a significant gateway within its global network.
Outstanding economic growth in Hong Kong throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s led to the expansion of Kuehne + Nagel’s service portfolio to meet increasing customer needs. This included the opening of a highly specialised project logistics department which supported the developing infrastructure in the region, such as new subway sytems and the building of the International Airport at Chek Lap Kok. Following Hong Kong’s change in sovreignty from Great Britain to The People’s Republic of China in 1997, Kuehne + Nagel opened further offices in South China and today operates a Hong Kong and South China cluster organisation, which handles one TEU every minute.
