The development of Kuehne + Nagel in China
Kuehne + Nagel opened its first representative office on mainland China in Beijing in 1979. This office was the first of its kind in international freight forwarding and a significant step in the globalisation of our company.
Later, in 2001, when China opened up to foreign competition and joined the World Trade Organisation, this marked another milestone for growth. We became the first logistics provider to receive a class A forwarders license in Shanghai in 2004. This increased our operational flexibility and we were able to begin expanding our network, taking advantage of the so-called "golden age" of international freight forwarding from 2004 to 2008 in China. Continuous expansion of the network has brought us closer to our customers. This has enabled us to develop logistics solutions that are closely tailored to customers' needs and which can adapt to support the dynamic developments in Chinese industry.
