New Airfreight Office in Dubai offers customs’ e-freight services
The 1,000 sqm state-of-the-art hub facility is located next to the Al Maktoum International Airport, one of the busiest airports worldwide that upon completion will have a capacity to handle more than 200 million passengers and around 12 million tonnes of cargo per year.
Following the opening of the new hub in January 2017, Kuehne + Nagel L.L.C. was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation by Dubai Customs for being one of the first companies in Dubai to successfully implement “Dubai Customs’ E-Freight Services” – an offering which has been very well received by existing and new customers.
Based on its strategic location within the Jebel Ali Free Zone, the fastest growing regional free trade zone, the Kuehne + Nagel airfreight hub offers its customers a variety of advanced services, such as direct and fast delivery to customers in Jebel Ali, in a maximum time of 60 minutes only. Cargo can be moved on TUG service from the airport to the forwarder warehouse and the breakdown of airline palettes can be done inside the Kuehne + Nagel hub. With KN SecureChain certification the Dubai hub provides a comprehensive and protective solution for high-value and / or sensitive products, including storage within a 160 sqm high value cage.
From Brazil to Namibia: locomotives on high sea
The Namibian national rail carrier “TransNamib” recently added six brand new diesel locomotives to its fleet. Set on rail for the first time, beginning of this month, they already had a long journey behind them: handled by Kuehne + Nagel, the heavy load successfully completed the journey from its manufacturing facility in Brazil to its new departure point Walvis Bay in Namibia.
Shipped via road and sea, Kuehne + Nagel made sure that the batch of six GE Transportation C23EMP diesel-electric locomotives arrived at their destination safely and on time. Each locomotive had a length of 18 metres and weighed in at 111 tons. As there was no suitable rail connection to the port, the 460 km long trip from Contagem to Sepetiba Port in Rio de Janeiro had to be done by road. The journey took between three to six days per convoy of two depending on weather conditions and permissions for conveyance. The loading at the port in Brazil was carried out in two days and the vessel successfully completed the journey across the Atlantic Ocean in another ten days.
The shipment is a clear proof of Kuehne + Nagel’s strong global network and capacity to provide optimum solutions for its customers. Due to the cooperation between Kuehne + Nagel in Namibia and Brazil as well as the Regional Charter desk, the Kuehne + Nagel team was able to deliver as promised!
Environment Champions at Kuehne + Nagel

Green Light for E-Trucks
In May this year, Kuehne + Nagel introduced a 100 per cent electric car fleet replacing combustion vehicles for deliveries within the different production sites of one of its main customers in Toulouse, France. Pierre, QSHE Manager on-site, explains why he chose to promote environmental protection by becoming an Environment Champion for the company and what drives his commitment to the use of clean energy.
“I am proud to be part of the global Environment Champion team. In this way, I can help my company to meet its green objectives and also provide better environment for my children. As an Environment Champion it is my job to promote Kuehne + Nagel’s values like preservation of the environment or sustainable development at my workplace and within my business area which is characterised by constant evolution and a very high level of industrial standard. Implementing a new idea, therefore, has to be carefully analysed and proven capable since customer satisfaction is the overall target. The Green Truck project is a tangible way to reduce Kuehne + Nagel’s carbon footprint and at the same time it even contributes to meet the environmental objectives of our customer. The e-vehicles cover more than 500 km per day with zero CO2 emission and zero fossil energy consumption with the same service reliability level. This is only a first step and there is still a long way to go, but it is a perfect proof that one can combine on-time deliveries, customer satisfaction and environmental conservation.”
Since 2009, Kuehne + Nagel has been building up a worldwide network of Environment Champions - employees who next to their jobs volunteer to raise awareness of environmental issues, provide guidance to their colleagues and influence site activities to reduce CO2 emissions. In our miniseries we will show you Kuehne + Nagel’s “green faces” encouraging globally the use of environmental friendly solutions
Kuehne + Nagel honoured with Adam Smith Award 2016
The Adam Smith Awards are considered the highest global awards for achievements in corporate treasury. Kuehne + Nagel was awarded overall winner in the category “Best SWIFT Solution”.
In late 2014, Kuehne + Nagel launched its project to replace the existing ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) with an in-house developed tool that would work as a global interface. Before the implementation of the new ERP, all banking connectivity was handled locally and every country was in charge of its own connections.
According to Benedikt Z., Cash Manager at Kuehne + Nagel Management AG and initiator of the project, the vision was to connect with all of the company’s banks worldwide through one channel, in one format and with one security module following one security policy. The new ERP platform and the new SWIFT solution has gone live in more than 50 countries. The global roll-out of the tool will be finished by summer 2017.
Benedikt says: “We are very happy and proud to say that our vision came true. There is no difference in channel, format, security module and security policy if an in-coming or outgoing payment is made in New Zealand, South Korea, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Romania, Estonia, Switzerland, Belgium, Norway, Ireland, Canada, Chile or all the other countries worldwide which are already implemented.”
